Given the socio-economic and political challenges prevalent in many developing countries, the development and evaluation of health programs in the field of global health require a broader perspective and a systematic approach, along with consideration of local specificities. This course primarily aims to examine important factors relevant to each step in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating a global health program, providing an understanding of the theories and methodologies utilized in each stage. Additionally, this course provides students the opportunity to develop their own global health program design and monitoring & evaluation plan, considering factors such as a country’s socio-cultural and economic conditions, healthcare needs, community participation, and the program’s sustainability.

Recently, the scope and interest in global health have rapidly expanded, influenced by the consequences of globalization processes, technological advancements, and the emergence of new infectious diseases, among other factors. This seminar course aims to address cross-cutting issues and recent trends in global health that go beyond the scope of the introductory global health course (i.e., “Global Health”).

This practical course offers students with an opportunity to apply global health knowledge they have learned in class to address real-world global health issues, both domestically and internationally. Through practical experience, students can expand their acquired research and practical skills to identify issues in the field of global health and understand local health-related needs. Additionally, students have the opportunity to explore, plan, and propose problem-solving methods, considering the socio-economic conditions of the local context.
