국제보건(Global Health)은 전세계적 차원의 건강 향상과 형평성 달성을 위해 건강불평등과 관련된 여러 보건문제들을 국제적 협력과 다학제적 접근법을 이용하여 연구하는 학문입니다.
특히, 국가간 경계를 넘어서거나 다른 나라의 환경 및 경험에 의해 영향을 받는 건강문제들에 초점을 두며, 이 문제들의 사회경제적, 정치학적 및 환경적 결정인자들을 이해하려는 이론과 실천적 해결 방법들을 모색, 발전시켜 나갑니다. 국제보건정책연구실은 국제보건 분야의 현안들을 다학제적 관점과 방법론적 틀을 통해 살펴보고, 개발도상국 각국의 상황과 보건의료 필요를 좀 더 잘 반영하고 건강불평등 해소에 기여할 수 있는 국제보건정책을 연구합니다. 예를 들어, 건강불평등 감소를 위한 노력이 필요하다고 판단되는 특정 국가/지역을 대상으로 그 국가/지역의 문화적, 사회경제적 상황과 질병부담수준을 고려한 보건사업을 기획하고, 보건프로그램의 효과적 전달을 위한 방안을 개발합니다. 또한, 이러한 보건사업들의 성과를 모니터링하고 평가하기 위한 다양한 정성적, 정량적 방법론의 적용을 시도하고 연구합니다.
현재 연구실원을 대상으로 국제보건의 주요 이슈와 쟁점, 국제보건 프로그램의 사례연구, 국제보건 연구방법론에 관한 세미나를 진행하고 있습니다. 또한, 국제보건 분야 외에도 국제개발협력 및 빈곤감소, 적정기술개발 등 관련 분야의 세미나와 학회에 연구실원들이 적극적으로 함께 참석하고 있습니다.
Global health is a discipline that investigates various health issues related to health inequalities, aiming to achieve overall health improvement and equity on a global scale through global cooperation and multidisciplinary approaches.
In particular, it focuses on health issues that transcend national boundaries or are influenced by the conditions and experiences of other countries, aiming to explore and advance both theoretical and practical solutions to understand the socio-economic, political, and environmental determinants that shape these issues. The Global Health Policy Research Lab examines current issues in the field of global health from an multidisciplinary perspective and applies methodological framework to better reflect the situations and healthcare needs of developing countries, and to research global health policies that can contribute to reducing health inequalities. For instance, efforts are made to plan global health projects targeting specific countries or regions where it is deemed necessary to reduce health inequalities, considering the cultural, socio-economic conditions, and disease burden of the given area, and to develop strategies for the effective delivery of health programs. Additionally, various qualitative and quantitative methodologies are attempted and researched to monitor and evaluate the performances of these global health projects
Currently, the research lab is hosting seminars for its lab members, focusing on key issues and challenges in global health, case studies of global health programs, and research methodologies used in the field of global health. Additionally, research lab members actively participate in seminars and conferences in related fields such as international development cooperation, poverty reduction, and appropriate technology development, extending beyond the scope of global health.
